A five-day long Environment Fair was held in Dhaka on the occasion of World Environment Day 2016. More than sixty national and international environmental organizations including some Government departments participated in the fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre from 31 August to 04 September 2016.
The Department of Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Forests organized the event. Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair following a discussion meeting and award giving ceremony.
Fair stalls were decorated with a nature friendly look and were open from morning to evening. The CBSMTH project of IUCN presented the one of most attractive stalls in the fair. This stall placed some useful materials to introduce Tanguar Haor with displaying photography, book, Journal/publication, poster, leaflet, etc. While most stalls were busy in promoting environment friendly products, the IUCN stall acted as a source of disseminating information & knowledge among the visitors in the fair. Nature lovers, students and children were mostly found to gather around the stall of IUCN.
Children books, leaflets, information materials, travel books and hundreds of posters were freely distributed among the visitors. Exhibition of some exciting documentaries on Tanguar Haor also drew attention of many visitors, many of whom were ignorant about Tanguar Haor previously.
